Established in 2000 by Luke Trezise & Ray McCorkell, Turfcare and Hire has forged a reputation that is synonymous with quality. Celebrating 20 years in 2020 the business is a leader within the Turf Industry and has a strong rapport with clients and suppliers alike. These relationships are reflected in the multiple ‘Geelong Business Excellence Awards’ Turfcare and Hire have won in 2009 2011 & 2012, and Hall of Fame Award in 2013.
Constant innovation and embracing of technology has seen the business go from strength to strength, Turfcare and Hire is the only Turf Maintenance & Construction Company in Geelong that has the ability and knowledge to complete turf management operations and constructions on such a scale.
From humble beginnings, the business started with Luke Trezise and only 1 other operator, the equipment was one simple truck & tractor. But what they lacked in size they made up for in vision, the goal was to provide Sportsground Maintenance Services to the local Geelong region. Word-of-mouth quickly spread and that 2-man team soon expanded, becoming the first to specialise in contract spraying and commercial turf maintenance.
In 2003 Leigh McCorkell joined the family business, bringing along an exciting fresh approach. The combined experience and knowledge of Luke & Leigh allowed the business to expand from Sportsground Maintenance, into Oval Renovations; Turfcare was one of the first to commercially line plant sportsgrounds, converting Rye Ovals to Warm Season Couch.
Broadening into the Construction and Reconstruction of sports fields saw a huge growth in the company’s size. After 10years Turfcare was employing 15 multi-skilled staff, expertise covering a range of turf management facets to include Maintenance, Construction and developments for a variety of clients ranging from government authorities to local schools and sporting clubs.
Joining the management team in 2014, Donna Hopgood brought her wealth of business expertise and experience, allowing Turfcare to truly take the next step.
Turfcare has flourished over 20 years, today boasting a huge fleet of 35 well-maintained, state-of-the-art vehicles, while constantly on the lookout for the newest technology and equipment to keep at top of the game and provide the best results to clients. The diverse team, is now over 30 strong, to include an administration team and mix of qualified Project Managers, Precinct Managers, Mechanics, turf maintenance Operators and labourers.
Staff and quality are always at the forefront of everything the business does, there is a real focus on upskilling staff through professional development days, higher education courses and in-house training. Turfcare have strong values when it comes to staff, General Manager Donna Hopgood says “by continuing to invest in our staff and innovative equipment and practices we will continue to provide high quality outcomes to all of our clients, present and future.”
